Morrelganj upazila on the north, the bay of bengal on the south, Mathbaria and Patharghata upazilas on the east, Mongla upazila on the west.

Sarankhola thana was established in 1908 and was turned into an upazila in 1982. It consists of 5 union parishads, 12 mouzas and 45 villages.
